We make it easy for teachers to invite
industry professionals virtually into the classroom
to bring real world relevance to learning
Simply put, the vision of the Alamo STEM Workforce Coalition’s (ASWC) is to bridge education and the San Antonio region workforce. The notion is to bring students, teachers and the workforce together to encourage students to select STEM careers and to understand what it takes to be a successful employee.
The Teacher Externships (TE) Project focuses on summer professional development for middle and high school math and science teachers. As part of this project, teachers visit local companies and organizations to learn where/how math and science is applied in workforce settings. Teachers also learn about employers’ needs, such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, responsibility, and ethics.
The goal of the Virtual Tours for Students (VTS) Project is to provide tours of facilities to students in the regional area using Internet-based technology. While the TE project focuses on teacher professional development, the VTS project focuses on student learning.
